PERFORMANCE MUSIC VIDEOS
Performance music videos generally seem to be used by artists within the alternative rock genre, especially the artists that play their own instruments. The main focus in these videos is the band/artist themselves and that talent that they portray. This promotes them as a real music artist with proper musical ability, such as playing an instrument or singing without obvious added auto tune etc. This is definately appropriate for this particular genre as it helps prepare the audience for when/if seeing them live as it presents a raw more accurate portrayl of the artist and what they are actually like. Also by using their performance the expressions and movement of the band might show the feelings the expect you to feel when you listen to it.
NARRATIVE MUSIC VIDEOS
Narative music videos tend to be used by electronic dance artists that use alot of technology in their songs. They dont seem to be featured in the videos which is probably due to the fact that they cant necessarily perform their songs. Their videos focus mainly on the story of the video (whatever it may be). This may be to draw attention away from the artist, and instead focus on how it makes the audience feel and the track itself not the reputation of the artist to minimise comparison and for the song to be seen on its own.
